The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)

ehand In 2006, C.S. Lewis’s novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was made into the 1st of the Chronicles of Narnia movies. I loved it! But I also enjoyed the books and the 1988 BBC version. The movie chronicling the second novel, Prince Caspian, finally came out last year.

princecaspian1Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy (the legendary Kings and Queens of Narnia) are called back to Narnia to once again save the Narnians from destruction and help Prince Caspian. Even though only a year had passed for the children in the “real” world, a good hundred had passed in Narnia. In that time, the Telmarines had invaded and raged a prejudiced campaign to wipe out all the Narnians. Prince Caspian, the rightful ruler, flees before his uncle’s desire to take the throne by force…and seeks the help of the creatures of Narnia. When the children return, Peter is confident that success and victory will be easy…after all they are the legendary Kings and Queens blessed by Aslan, right? But as Aslan so aptly tells Lucy…nothing ever happens the same way twice.

I loved this movie just as much as the first…with only a couple minor complaints. The first being that I felt there was just a little too much emphasis on fighting. And I hate that once again the “creators that be” can’t figure out how to equalize the volume! I get it loud enough to hear the conversations and then get blasted by the next action scene. I really don’t like having to try to anticipate the blast while holding the remote ready, when all I want to do is sit back and enjoy…usually with a bowl of popcorn. But those were really minor complaints…this is definitely one to keep. And I’m anxiously awaiting #3…the “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” is my favorite in the series!
